Quick Hits: Chrome Update and HTTP vs HTTPS, Secure vs. Not Secure

In this Quick Hits video ClientWhys/CountingWorks PRO CEO, Lee Reams II is discussing the latest with Google chrome and how they are showing non-secure, HTTP websites in their browser. This is an upgrade that is occurring right now and it's up to version 68 in chrome. What you'll see is if you have this version of chrome, visitors will now see a non-secure notice when they visit your website.

What does this mean to accounting and tax professionals?

If a prospect is visiting your website and sees that it is a non-secure website, they will feel as if it is not a trustworthy site. If the prospect is opting-in on a newsletter form or contact form, they might not provide any information and bounce off your website. That is obviously a big deal.

Firefox is talking about doing the same thing, so between the two, it's over 70% of the browser market. This is something that needs to be addressed within your accounting or tax practice as far as the marketing budget. Upgrading your website to SSL security would give you the HTTPS secure site.

We moved our platform over to this a little over a year ago. Please note, that it has some bearing on SEO results so that is an important issue to consider as you work through your marketing plans for this year and next.
